This spring, right after an eventful team trip through China and Cambodia, Mitchell returned to South East Asia to visit our eco-friendly partners at Green School Bali. If you did not read our early blogs, you may not know that Green School is an educational institution made entirely of bamboo and one hundred percent sustainable. With the school's motto stating, "A community of learners making our world sustainable," we over at Swell found that something to get behind.
We partner with Green School by donating a portion of the proceeds from Swell Vision products to a scholarship fund. Not only is Green School's premise a fresh take on education, but the organization also puts on a variety of events to promote community awareness of sustainability. Mitchell was there, as an ambassador for Swell, during the Local Scholars Programme -- this was a kickoff for an international crowd funding campaign. As someone who knew a thing or two about raising money (from the good old days of peddling Boy Scout Popcorn), Mitchell was able to connect with the crowd on a personal level. He encouraged the students, and all in attendance, persistence beats resistance. Just look at where he is today; as a kid from a small town in South Carolina he never imagined he would be speaking to students in Bali.
The take home message from the event was simply do the best you can for the good of the community. Know that with each purchase of a product from the Swell Vision line, you will be supporting education, sustainability, and standing beside the our fellow environmentalists at Green School Bali.
