Bezos Pledges $1 Billion to 30 x 30 Commitment
Finally, one of the world's richest people is using his wealth for the good of the planet and it's people.
In 2020, Jeff Bezos pledged $10 billion to launch the Earth Fund. Today he announced The Bezos Earth Fund allocated a $1 billion to implement the 30 x 30 commitment. This is the first in a three part strategy to combat climate change and prevent mass extinction by protecting 30% of the land and sea by 2030. The focus will be on geographic regions that are vital for biodiversity and carbon stock. We must cease deforestation and the destruction of other fragile ecosystems to move the needle the needle on the climate crisis.
"We must urgently end our war with nature. Ecosystem destruction threatens the well-being of people everywhere," said United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
Funds will be disbursed in the form of grants prioritizing regions and countries in demand. By conserving 30% of specified land and sea expanses, it could help protect nearly 80% of plants and animals, maintain two/thirds of our clean water, and protect the carbon stock stored in our forest ecosystems.
Amazon and 53 other companies in 12 countries have joined The Climate Pledge. While Swell Vision is a small family owned business, we strive to do our part to promote a sustainable lifestyle which is the critical component of the Bezos Earth Fund.
